John Hitchcock turns 50

DJ Tricky and Frozen Horse got things started at BOS Meadery on November 16. Despite never having DJed together and some technical issues, we got it done. Unfortunately, these recordings do not capture John jamming along with us on some songs. Maybe next time.
Live recordings here. Track listings eventually.

Sonja Thomsen: in the space of elsewhere

Frozen Horse appeared at MMoCA (Madison Museum of Contemporary Art) on June 24 at 3:00 p.m. We hoped that you could join us for the reveal and celebration of the dynamic, site-responsive installation "in the space of elsewhere" by Sonja Thomsen. Commissioned by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art for the museum’s iconic windows and lobby space, Thomsen's multistory artwork includes monumental photographs and architectural interventions that elicit the wondrous potential of light. Sonja Thomsen is a Milwaukee-based artist who brings her photographic way of seeing to her work.

At 4 pm the artist and a multidisciplinary panel discussed the role of wonder in the creative process. In addition to being among the first to view the installation, guests to this event also enjoyed music by DJ Frozen Horse, and edible experience by VEA featuring Chef Jon Churan, and tasty cold beverages from Brenner Brewing.
Pictures and live recordings here. Track listings eventually.

Bike the Art

Frozen Horse appeared at ALL (Arts + Literature Laboratory) at the conclusion of the May 2017 Bike the Art event on May 20. This event started at MMoCA (Madison Museum of Contemporary Art) at 5:00 p.m. Frozen Horse was fully materialized at 7:30ish at ALL. You should have started at MMOCA, though. Everything makes more sense in context. You biked, then Frozen Horse slayed. OK people, now let's get (in formation && information).
A taste of what was: Silent ghosts of wolves in formation.

2016 Wisconsin Triennial

In collaboration with Meg Mitchell, the esoteric technicians of Progress Gardens and the Audio Response Team have crafted some sounds that are part of an installation. We hope you heard them in context at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. As an aide-memoire, here are preserved some snippets and pictures from the days leading up to the opening:

Under the Influence

Frozen Horse joined forces with an internationally-known artist, Meg Mitchell. In the form of Progress Gardens, they and others produced a happening, Under the Influence at MMOCA. There were serious questions, intricate performances, sexy tunes, and plant pollenation. You had to have been there. The soundtrack will be released when it is re-mastered. Pictures here.

The Floating World

Frozen Horse had, from time to time, emerged from occultation at Edo Restaurant on Park St. as the mood struck him to lay down either chillout, downtempo, chill house, antediluvian trance, or really whatever he feels like. The tide has shifted, we have drifted, it was good while it lasted. Picture here.

Standard::Deviation

"The human wheel is [?could be]
a metaphor for our [?time];
(circumstances are cyclical)..."

August 14th-16th, Desert Location, 2.5hrs from LA. Read about it here.
Refined, optimized, yet pared of extraneties; the sum of our art. This was a private party and we asked that it not be posted to any public list. Our loyal friends obliged us in this matter, and the music was partaken of with much delight and minimal interruption. This time, there were no swarms of bees and the weather was the best.

Hyperborea 2: Triumphal Return

"The sleeper must awaken into the dream."
At the Audio Response Team, we looked up from our omphaloskepsis and knew that the time is at hand. Words never understood while young now speak clearly. The Hyperboreans beckoned us back to their space-time. We initiated the making of music and the dreaming of dreams. The stars shifted into alignment; we opened a portal again to Hyperborea and brought you through to dance under the stars. This was what we had been trying to do the first time. We hope you had as good a time as we did.
More information is here on how it went down.

Wanderland 3

Our path wandered up out of the desert into the mountains so we followed it. As we progressed, the caravan groaned under its papyrus yoke, pulling loads of myrrh, techno, and a valuable cargo of Truffula seedlings to replant that which had been lost. Nevertheless, we knew that we would make it to Wanderland, led by our leader, eyes blued with the spices of a far-off desert. This time in the forest, this time even better than the last time.
We arrrived on May 17, saw five moons (ours, and four of Jupiter's), camped, danced, played on the massed drums and pipes of the Alien Underground.... More info will be written as photos are collated and the sunburn fades.

Wanderland II

On September 22, we returned to Wanderland. Since that fateful day when we reëntered the city, grins on our faces and dust in our boots, we had been charting the way back. Mendicant wanderers and caravans from afar have all had their secrets queried, their routes plotted, and their treasure uncovered. The time had come for us to load our own crates with frankincense and vinyl, steel ourselves against the irreverberate vastness, and wander the land.
Go here for further announcements concerning how it all went down. Pictures are here.

The Further Adventures of the Citrus Love Squad

Are they heroes? Are they villains? What side are you on? All that can be known for certain is that they appear as if from nowhere, shrouded in mystery; dispensing fruit, candy, and PLUR to the huddled masses. Picture Here

Hyperborea

Legend has it that Hyperborea was a mysterious land hidden behind the source of the north wind, where each summer day was as long as a year and mystical energies flowed among the people.

On the evening of June 9, 2007, we opened a portal to Hyperborea. A select group of adventurers passed through to the other side.
